This is like a Nordic Track, right?
Nope. A Nordic Track is a piece of equipment. Nordic Pole
Walking is a fitness and conditioning program that uses
two specially designed and constructed poles. It incorporates
the use of more muscles than used on a Nordic Track, and
you get to choose the view.
This is like walking sticks,
right?
Nope. Walking sticks are held in front of the body and
are used for balance. Nordic Walking Poles are used behind
the body and engage the muscles of the upper body while reducing
the ground force impacts on the joints. Also, Nordic
Poles have built-in shock absorbers.
Can I use Nordic Walking
Poles to replace my walker or cane?
Sorry, while Nordic Pole Walking will strengthen the muscles
used for balance and improve your proprieceptors, they
are NOT intended to be a balance aid. If in doubt - ask your
doctor.
How fit do I have to be
for Nordic Pole Walking?
Not very... If your doctor says it's OK to walk, it's
probably OK (or maybe even better) for you to Nordic Pole
Walk. If
in doubt - ask your doctor.
How fit CAN
I be and still benefit?
Nationally ranked marathon runners (including the winner
on the Men's Master division of the 2007 Boston Marathon)
regularly train with Nordic Poles. They develop better posture,
more upper body strength and protect their joints from over-use
injuries. If you work it - this can enhance what even
your current fitness routine is. This truly is -
Fitness
walking, or running; Extra Strength.
How much is this
going to cost me?
Like any fitness program, you can make it as expensive
as you would like. While we offer a good quality pair of
Nordic Walking Poles, with all the "bells and whistles"
for under $100, we can get them for you for as much as
$200 - $300. We're pretty comfortable saying
that Nordic Pole Walking will cost less than a gym membership.
Of course, if you live in Connecticut, Nordic Pole Walking
in the Caribbean will cost more.
Our introductory class, to find out if this is something
you could enjoy, is $10 (or bring a friend and its $15.00
for both). We
do plan on offering you other opportunities in the future
to spend more money.
I
can get a total body workout on the elliptical at the
gym. Why
would I want Nordic Walking Poles?
Well, for one thing, on the elliptical the view is always
the same. You rarely get to breath in fresh air, and it's
harder to share a conversation. Also, try taking
your elliptical with you on vacation.
