*The following list is meant to suggest ways in which Nordic Pole Walking can help individuals looking for assistance with particular issues. This in no way suggests that Nordic Pole Walking will cure, or even ameliorate, any ongoing, current or future physical complaint. Individual results will vary. We recommend that anyone starting this or any other fitness program consult with a doctor who can assess your particular physical condition and suitability for participation.

Anyone* who:

Is looking for an exercise protocol that tones upper and lower body simultaneously

Nordic Pole Walking tones legs, buttocks, arms and "core" all at the same time

Wants to lose weight as they tone up

Nordic Pole Walking can burn up to 46% more calories than fitness walking

Donna is 60 years old and never thought of herself as an athlete although she enjoys taking a walk several times a week. Her doctor told her she should lose the 25 pounds that have crept up on her over the years and she suggested joining a gym.

Reluctant to commit to a gym membership, Donna heard about the NPW classes and decided to give it a try first. She enjoyed the class and started Nordic Pole Walking three times a week. As of this writing, Donna has lost 16 pounds that she says were "easy thanks to Nordic Pole Walking workouts." The gym is no longer a consideration.

 Wants to improve their posture

Nordic Pole Walking rolls your shoulders back and reprograms the muscles involved in posture

Wants to get more from their fitness walking

Nordic Pole Walking involves 90% of the muscles of the body, far more than walking alone

Wants to improve their balance

While Nordic Poles should not be used to replace a cane or walker, regular Nordic Pole Walking will strengthen and tone all 33 muscles involved in balance and posture

Is concerned about their cardio-vascular health

Medical studies have shown that Nordic Pole Walking improves the cardio-vascular system in a manner that is safe and effective, by helping you to reach and hold your target heart rate.  (Tell your doctor you are going to be doing it.  He or she will be so proud of you!)

Is always pressed for time

Nordic Pole Walking gives you a 50 minute total body workout in about 30 minutes

Suffers with sciatica

Because Nordic Pole Walking tilts your hips under you, it may take the impingement off the sciatic nerve, reducing the pain.  (But discuss it with your doctor.)

Carries their stress in their neck and back

Nordic Pole Walking engages and relaxes the muscles in the neck and back - draining away the tension

Wants to overcome the effects of hunching over a desk computer all day

"When Friday comes I feel like a need to be stretched out," said Angela a 41 year old Executive Assistant. "Between hours of sitting at the computer and feeling the stress of my job, my shoulders and neck are in a knot by the end of the week."

Angela's sister learned about Nordic Pole Walking from her fellow teachers and suggested that they try it together.  They took a class and, after two months, they are not only feeling less stressed, but Angela lost 3 pounds and her sister lost 5 pounds. What a nice bonus!

Is recovering from knee surgery - or trying to avoid it.

When the doctor says it's OK, Nordic Pole walking can help improve the range of motion and re-build the strength in the knee, while off-loading some of the ground impact force

Is recovering from hip surgery - or trying to avoid it.

When the doctor says it's OK, Nordic Pole walking can help to improve the range of motion and re-build the strength in the hips, while off-loading some of the ground impact force

Enjoys exercising with a friend

You can get all the benefits of a total body workout while you maintain a conversation (and even a friendship...)

Enjoys exercising alone

You can get all the benefits of a total body workout while lost in thought or deep into your I-pod.  (Watch out for traffic though.)

Is bored with the view from the treadmill, or from the elliptical machine, or the therapy pool

With Nordic Poles you can walk on the beach, in the woods, along the sidewalk or in the mall.  Wherever you decide to go.

Paul is 25 years old and has been working out since he was in high school. He is bored with the treadmill and all the other cardio equipment, even with his I-Pod playing his favorite music, but he doesn't want to lose the level of fitness he's achieved. Nordic Pole Walking was suggested by his fiancé as a sport they can do together, and Paul went along with her idea "just to make her happy."

After six months, Paul has become an avid Nordic Pole Walker. He and his fiancé invited some friends to try it with them and now it's their preferred workout, with or without their friends.

By the way, they also invited their parents to try it out and make NPW fans of them, too.

Would enjoy a family activity that includes a range of ages, is inexpensive, easy to learn, easy to transport, and fun

Likes staying on the cutting edge

While approximately 7,000,000 Europeans enjoy Nordic Pole Walking, it is still pretty new in the United States.  There is still time for you to be the trendsetter.
